Lewis Gun (Variant)
Lewis Gun (Variant)
The second most common allied aerially mounted machine gun was the Lewis Gun. This is the version is based on a museum piece in Australia was mounted on an SE5. This varient has strait untappered barrels and has a barrel handle. Often mistaken for a Type III, the museum piece was made in 1916: two years before the introduction of the Type III. We believe that it is a modified Type II, jacket removed with 97 round ammo drum. There is a photograph of this type of Lewis on a DH1 along with a standard Type II.
